“Mothers of Mention”

The Word of God is filled with examples of godly mothers.

Eve was called Eve because she was “the mother of all living.”

(Genesis 3:20).  Eve rejoiced when God gave her godly seed through Seth after the death of Abel.

Sarah was the wife of Abraham.  She had a keen sense of God’s choice of Isaac to be the one to whom the spiritual inheritance was to be given.  She would not allow Ishmael the son of the bondwoman Hagar to reside with the promised son, Isaac.  Sarah’s name means “Princess.”

Rebekah was the wife of Isaac.  As mothers can be, this woman was very determined that Jacob would receive the promised blessing of the double portion.  God had spoken to her when Jacob and Esau were in her womb.  Rebekah was driven and tenacious to see God’s plan fulfilled according to His word.

Hannah the mother of the prophet Samuel is an example of a woman who poured her heart out to God.  She made a vow that if God would give her a son, she would give him back to God.  God answered her prayer and Samuel was born.  Samuel was such a tremendous blessing to Israel.  It was all due to the fact a woman, Hannah, persevered in prayer until God answered and she kept her promise to God.

Mary the Mother of Jesus.  What an honor to be selected as the one through whom the Christ child would be born. In Israe, women who were barren were disappointed because they knew then it would not be them that would bear the long-awaited Messiah.  While this was Mary’s divinely appointed lot in life, it meant tremendous suffering and heartache to see her firstborn Son go through the heinous suffering and humiliation he endured.  As Simeon prophesied to her at Jesus’ birth, “a sword would pierce her own soul also.”  While it is tremendous blessing to be called of God to fulfill a divine plan, we must remember it always involve suffering because this world is “anti-christ”  hostile and alien to the things of God.  Our planet rejected and hated the Sinless and Holy Son of God.  We may readily notice that our society today rejects and tramples upon the holy things of God.  We know who is behind all of that:  our arch enemy Satan.  We are thankful to know that Jesus said be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

Today we honor our women and mothers.  We will be serving them a delicious breakfast to tell them how much we appreciate them.  God bless all our women and mothers.
