“The Cross- Symbol of God’s Love”

A Message by Pastor Dan

SCRIPTURE:   I COR 1:18-2:9

What would you leave to your loved ones as a symbol or a remembrance of your love for them?  Thousands of dollars?  A Home?  A Car?  Precious Jewels?  Other remembrances?  What would you leave that would say to the receipients, He or She really loved me and wanted me to have this!  Every time you would look at it you would be reminded of her/his love.

The legacy of love that God left us that symbolizes His Great Love for us is the CROSS!  That is what I want to talk to you about this morning.

  1. The Cross an instrument of death for our Lord was the symbol (always was and always will be) of God’s Love for us.
  2. Christ is the Source of our Salvation. The Cross is the Means
  3. I want to talk about the Cross and why it is the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.
  4. How the Cross defeated Satan in totality.

THE CROSS

The Cross in the first century was a Roman Torture Device for criminals.  The cruel cross upon which Jesus died became the means for which God the Father provided Salvation for all mankind.  He gave His only Son and put upon him the penalty [death penalty] for the sins of all mankind.  Salvation is free to all if men will only accept God’s free Gift of Salvation.

Freedom is rarely free!  We have freedom in our country, but it cost our forefathers their lives in the American Revolution in battle so we could be free from British rule and have freedom of religion and be our own sovereign state.

Slavery is abolished in our country today, but it cost the lives of many Americans to keep our nation as one nation and free the slaves.  As we thank God for our freedom, we can only do so with remembering the ones who gave their lives so we might be free.

Every time we take Communion, we are declaring and remembering our Lord’s death until He comes again.  The Cross was the means of our salvation, while Christ is the Source of our Salvation.

Gal 6:14 – God forbid that I should boast…save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ by whom the world is crucified unto me and I unto the world.

Gal 2:20 – I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live.  Yet not I, but Christ liveth in me and the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.

We need to see ourselves crucified with Christ.  We need to see our sins nailed to the Cross.  The work of Christ is a finished work.  Get a revelation of the Cross of Christ.  The Blood of the Cross has saved you!  Just as nails are nailed to a wooden coffin, so the nailing of the Son of God to the Cross finished the end of Sin’s dominion over you and me.  I will glory in the Cross.

OTHER SCRIPTURES FOR STUDY:  I Cor 2:8  Colossians 2:15

Eph 6:12  Isa 52:14  Isaiah 53 all.  John 20:24-29 (Thomas)

Luke 24:28-31 (Emmaus)  They saw the nail prints in his hand.  Those nail prints will be Christ’s badge throughout eternity.

The Cross is the Wisdom of God.  I Cor 2:8.  It is the Power of God.  I Cor 1:24 Romans 1:16.

God created man out of love.  He had to redeem him out of love, but God cannot die or He would not be God.  He sent His Son, true Man and true God who suffered and died and descended into hell and confronted the powers of evil and defeated Satan in totality. (Colossians 2:15)  Satan only runs on inertia now and has power by deception in the minds of people in this present world system under the Beast rule. Jesus led captivity captive into the presence of God.  He went from an environment of evil, the very gates of Hell and defeated Satan and Jesus has the keys of hell, death, and the grave.  He went into the very Presence of God from where He now makes intercession for us at the Right Hand of the Father.  The Cross is the Symbol of God’s Love for man.  God commended his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.  All that Christ did on Via Dolorosa He did for sinners.  Accept in totality Christ’s work for you!
